Sourcing Story
Where this material came from and how we verified it.
📍 Origin
Blended in Maine; linseed from North Dakota farms, tung oil from South America
A fourth-generation Maine woodworking shop's house finish, scaled for broader distribution in 2018. The formula started as a traditional linseed-tung blend used on boat decks — built to hold up to water and UV without cracking. The citrus solvent carrier replaced mineral spirits after the shop's finisher developed a sensitivity. No marketing-driven reformulation — a real problem solved by an actual craftsperson.
✅ Quality Checks
- Tung oil authenticity verified — no mineral oil adulterants (GC/MS testing on each batch)
- Citrus solvent purity confirmed: d-limonene ≥95%, no petroleum fraction
- Drying time tested per ASTM D1640 on white pine and red oak substrates
- Food-safety confirmed at 72-hr cure: FDA 21 CFR 175.300 compliant formulation
